Abstract

This is a contrastive study of the compound passive voice in Kurdish and Persian which sheds light on the morphological, syntactic and semantic features of the passive voice in the two languages. Moreover, the study aims to point out the similarities and differences between the languages regarding the passive voice and its structures and uses so that it could be easily analyses and used in the process of language learning. To achieve the aims of the study, the contrastive descriptive approach has been adopted to compare the different constructions and tenses of the passive voice. The verb (hat) in Kurdish and the verb (Shod) in Persian play the main role in forming the passive, especially where the agent and transitivity are involved. In both languages the agent of the passive verb is not the doer of the action but it is affected by the action.
